I’m here, sitting alone with a full stomach from a quick Chinese dinner, after cursing my Seagate hard drive, responding to Fabienne Ricordel and taking a quick look at my e-mail inbox.
I don’t know why I’m so happy all of a sudden.
Just to sum up what I went through today :
I got up, washed up, got ready for college, and while there were still a few minutes left before it was time to leave home, I checked my e-mail inbox. Ricordel’s e-mail really made my day. :D
Then, I parked at the Y and went to college for Ms Sunbeam’s class. And we had already reached the climax of King Lear : Act 4 Scene 7, where King Lear finally reunites with his youngest daughter Cordelia – yes, the one whom he banished, the very same daughter who loved him the most. From all these previous acts and scenes we found that Lear was ill-treated by his other two daughters Gonerill and Regan – and I hated the gruesome hacking. But it was a great class, all the same.
During the break (in Ms Sunbeam’s class, that is), Adoravelle, Kimberly and I were talking about hairstyles. Kimberly was mentioning the fact that some people just look hot in crew cuts. I told her I had a crew cut when I was seven and I especially hated it because it made my face more like a moon. And here comes the rest :
Kimberly : No lah, your face isn’t round. It’s square.
troisnyx* : No lah wei ! It’s round ! See ?
Kimberly : No, I’m certain it’s square.
troisnyx* : I’m telling you, it’s round. There ! Moon.
Kimberly : Okay, let’s ask Adora and see. Adora, look at her face. Is it round or square ?
Adoravelle : Moon lah.
troisnyx* : See ! I told you !
After Ms Sunbeam’s class we had two hours of break (whoohoo !). Kimberly, Adoravelle, Leithiga and I decided to head over to Mid Valley for an outing. Transport was on Adoravelle – and we had lunch in Carl Jr.’s, at the top floor of Mid Valley (sorry folks, no photos this time – I forgot to bring my phone along).
I had a fish sandwich (I forgot the official name), and I remember that Kimberly had Chili Cheese Fries.
And goodness, the portion was HUGE ! This is the best fast food meal I’ve ever had. For just 14-something (sandwich, fries and a towering drink !), the meal was very filling. The sandwich itself was huge ! And the fries aren’t like any other – a part of the skin is retained, and there’s very little oil in those fries. Probably the most nutritious fries I’ve ever had. I remember I was the first to finish my meal.
So after our meal at Carl Jr.’s, we walked out to one of those stalls selling trinkets – Lei bought something – and we headed over to the arcade.
Lei and Kimberly tried this racing game. Adoravelle and I just looked on. I told them I’d go take a look, and so I did. I was searching high and low for Tekken 4 (or Tekken 5, or 6) but there wasn’t any in the arcade this time. I was dejected. There was every other arcade game from Namco except Pac-Man and the Tekken series ! I was sad !
As I browsed the arcade, something caught my eye (or rather, my heart) : the Taiko Drum Master arcade game. But I dared not try – in case I were to burn the money I set aside for my parking ticket at the Y. Also, had I tried, I’d have most probably been alone.
Not long after we got out of the top floor and went window-shopping in quite a few places – Zara, Echo Park, Tropicana Life, Folli Follie and Converse.
After the gallivanting was over, we went back to college – only to find Ms Eunice instead of Ms Barclay in the Tort law class.
To be honest (and, no hard feelings towards anyone), I loved Ms Barclay’s classes. It may have been obvious that she was trying to cover the first few topics quickly enough, but when she explained things, she explained them in an andante (for the uninitiated, this means walking pace). And also, even if she wasn’t too familiar with our Manglish terms, she still was lovable. A bit cheesy, but lovable.
Today’s Tort law class was torture for me. Maybe I was tired. Or, maybe I had mood swings. Either way, Ms Eunice was too scary for me, and the pace at which she explained points of law/court cases was slow. Too slow for my liking. I told Adoravelle and Kimberly (as I was sitting right next to them), I was about to fall asleep. As no grapevine was allowed in the class (unlike Literature and Business Studies), Adoravelle wrote on a loose sheet of paper, and I wrote back to her :
Adoravelle : I’M BORED.
troisnyx* : Me too. The pace at which she explains things is just too slow for my liking. I prefer Ms Barclay. I want her back !
There are already two like-minded people in class (excluding me) – Adoravelle and Kimberly. If there are more, the class is gonna be divided. The above-average students obviously prefer Ms Barclay ; the rest of us prefer Ms Eunice. Well. I guess I’ll have to endure it, or go for the night class……..
Class ended rather early ; at 5 instead of 6. I went to the computer lab and typed my previous post, and took another look at Ricordel’s e-mail (because I didn’t read it properly in the morning). I smiled to myself. No, just looking at that e-mail made me so delighted ! It was respite after a horrifying two hours of Tort law class. When I got out, Lei told us she was going to go for her French class at the Y (and I reckon it’s nothing like DK’s and mine !). I asked her how she was progressing ; she said it was at a snail’s pace.
I encouraged her to attempt sitting for the exams – you know, the DELF/DALF exams which I’ve been talking about in my previous posts. She dared not. I told her, sitting for the exams is a challenge – and believe me, even if anyone may dread the real day of the exam, preparing for it is real fun ! That too, especially if we’re exposed to the media – we get a better view of things sometimes, and we can also judge for ourselves what is good and what is not, because not all content is filtered. (Almost all the games I play in French could be very well rated M (Mature, 17+) because of the explicit language !) Also, if anyone does beat my track record and passes the C1 (let alone C2), not only your voice will be heard among the French-speakers ; it’ll be well received – as in the case of the correspondence between Ricordel and me !
We said our goodbyes, I drove back home, and I was so tired that I ended up taking a two-hour nap. I got up at about 8-something at night. Narin came back from Ipoh, then she, dad and I went out for a quick Chinese dinner.
Now, here I am. I’m yet to ask Lei how her French class was……. I want to be able to converse with her. But well, if she goes on like this, chances are that this track record of mine will be unbeaten.
